Jenifer Hanen is an artist, web developer, writer, designer, and photographer from California. This site is a work in progress to document Ms. Jen's online art / design /development and 'bestof' ImageText posted elsewhere or that have never left the black hole of her computer's hard drive and need to see the light of the Internets.
Ms. Jen is fond of all things 1945 to 1965, esp. the hairdos, design, fashion, and art. She loves dark hair, red lipstick, capri pants, small shoes, and abstract expressionist & color field paintings. She feels that a good web site should say it all in color, clean typography, photos and a minimalist aesthetic.
But a pink website? Pink! Is Ms. Jen gone off the girlie deep end... ok, let's agree that Ms. Jen is cheeky, as pink pushes the rules, said and unsaid, of the design portfolio genre just a wee bit.
Admit it, you are just as tired of grey, white, brown, and neutral portfolio sites as Ms. Jen is. Really, you are.
Ms. Jen fell in love with the image/text/code combo of web design in March of 1996 when dared by a computer science student to learn HTML. She started Barflies.net with Alex West in Jan. 1999, going freelance with Black Phoebe Designs in August of 2000 - taking on client work of all stripes, and her own blog in April of 2003.
There was also the teaching bit, the booking and stage managing punk bands bit, as well as the ongoing obsessive documentation of all things, esp. cranes, with her Nokia cameraphones. Ms. Jen officially retired from music journalism with this mobile photo in July of 2005, thankfully.
Ms. Jen attended the Trinity College's Multimedia Systems masters program, in Dublin, Ireland, in 2005 - 2006. She is now back home in California with a freshly minted Masters degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science from Trinity.
Ms. Jen is currently freelancing, contracting with Easy! Designs as a Sr. Web Developer, and working on two of her own web applications (more to come on this front).
